Ten Steps Before Solar Panels Dublin Go Live on the Roof
Ten Steps Before Solar Panels Dublin Go Live on the Roof
An empty Dublin roof does not become a working array because someone ordered panels online. It becomes live when survey, grant offer, grid paperwork, install, BER, and claim land in the right order.
1. Survey the roof, not the brochure
Check orientation, pitch, shading, rafter spacing, covering type, and clear area before anyone sketches a panel count.
2. Check the electrics and the meter story
Note spare ways, earthing, existing PV or battery equipment, and whether the meter can support export.
3. Size the array against how you use power
Match kWp to daytime load and roof space, then plan strings, inverter location, and cable routes.
4. Lock the SEAI offer before you buy kit
Wait for the offer letter before committing. The solar electricity grant is €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, €200 per kWp from 2–4 kWp, maximum €1,800.
5. Notify ESB Networks for microgeneration
File the domestic microgeneration notice through ESB Networks so the network knows the inverter is coming.
6. Respect planning and Building Regulations
Ordinary domestic roof arrays may be exempt, but protected structures, unusual frontages, and ground-mounts need an early check.
7. Install rails, panels, inverter, and tidy eaves
Use suitable fixings and flashings, keep DC and AC runs safe, and seal penetrations so the roof stays dry.
8. Commission, label, and hand over the app
Witness tests, safety labels, monitoring, warranty contacts, and string notes make the system genuinely live.
9. Update the BER so the roof shows on the certificate
Book a BER after commissioning so the certificate matches the machine on the roof.
10. Claim, then watch the first clean weeks
Submit invoices, photos, and the offer reference once commissioned, then compare clear-week generation with your bill pattern.
